Intended for use aboard wet-hull type r/c model submarines, the Sub-driver 2.5 Seawolf is compact and efficient packaging and integration of the propulsion, control and ballast sub-systems needed to operate your radio controlled model submarine. The Trumpeter 1/144 scale SEAWOLF kit has an injection-formed plastic hull and appendages . The model is free-flooding and the hull forms the enclosure for the Sub-driver, drive train, and linkages needed to operate the vehicle’s dive planes, rudder and propulsion system.
The outfitted Sub-driver 2.5 Seawolf is secured within the hull by rubber bands and magnetic connectors which makes installation/removal extremely easy. Your Sub-driver can be used to operate other types of submarine with hulls of like size and displacement.
Specifications:
length, bulkhead to bulkhead 10"
length, overall (Propel bottle to end of motor coupler) 13"
cylinder diameter 2.5"
maximum diameter 2.75"
approximate overall weight 21 oz.
ballast tank floodable water weight/buoyancy 4.4 oz.
blow/Vents per charge of Propel liquid 15 cycles
approximate run time 30 minutes

The Sub-driver 2.5 Seawolf is intended for use to bring to life the very small 1/144 Trumpeter static display model kit of America's most powerful and capable SEAWOLF attack submarine. Once fitted out, the kit becomes a fully capable, fast and maneuverable r/c submarine.

The Sub-driver has a fully tested ballast and propulsion system. You install the radio control system, angle-keeper circuit, fail-safe circuit and battery, following the provided instructions. Trim (or balancing) the boat and you're ready for patrol.

The Sub-driver 2.5 Seawolf is divided into two compartments: the forward space is the gas type ballast system, the after space is dry and houses the propulsion and control devices. The gas type ballast system employs common spray-gun propellant (available at hobby stores and Caswell Inc) which is stored in the copper tank seen projecting from the front of the forward bulkhead. The reservoir contains enough propel to perform at least fifteen blow-vent cycles before requiring a recharge.
Here we see a break-down of the Sub-driver 2.5 Seawolf, illustrating how accessible the unit is. The 280 propulsion motor is provided and comes installed and equipped with its own watertight seal. Four pushrod watertight seals are installed. The entire unit is factory tested to insure correct operation of the ballast system, propulsion system, and watertight integrity of all seals.

Shown installed are the three micro-servos used to control the SEAWOLF's rudders, stern planes, and bow planes. These are pre-installed for you.

Here we see all the devices (less the r/c transmitter, not shown) needed to complete the SubDriver. The battery, angle-keeper, fail-safe, and receiver are available through Caswell Inc
All other items, less the battery are secured in place with double-backed adhesive 'servo tape'. The battery is held in place beneath the equipment tray with either servo tape or zip-tie's.
THE TRUMPETER 1/144 STATIC KIT, R/C CONVERSION FITTINGS KIT
This package of replacement parts will enhance the scale fidelity of the Trumpeter kit. The pump-jet propulsion system is a vast improvement to the non-operational original parts. The kit parts are cast resin and cast white metal and are developed from class plans and detailed examination of prototype photos. Also provided are two foundation pieces which mount within the kits hull and accept the Sub-driver.
Control surfaces, stabilizers, deck fittings, internal linkages, propulsor, pump-jet rotor, Rotor shaft, thrust bearing, thrust collar, stainless thrust washers, Oilite bearings, scale sized metal deck cleats (to replace the out of scale Trumpeter kit deck cleats.)
